The article studies specific features of scientific texts in engineering. Attention is drawn
to the problem of using stylistic devices in scientific texts. In the paper we describe diffi-
culties of translating metaphors, epithets, and comparisons and give examples of stylisti-
cally coloured expressions from scientific journals and the Internet.
Keywords:
stylistics, translation, metaphor, comparison, epithets.
