The article describes the comparative sociolinguistic research aimed at revealing some
common and distinguishing features in the terminological competence of the Russian and
English-speaking business communication participants. It analyses conceptual view and
the actual usage of anglicisms denoting persons in Russian as well as their equivalents in
the source language. A range of issues including the differences in structural and seman-
tic characteristics of economic terminological systems in Business English and Russian,
posing major translation challenges, and cause problems in vocabulary acquisition is
introduced. The results of the study may be useful in developing training terminological
dictionaries and methodological guidelines to the Business English course.
