Humanities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The features of humanities teaching at a technical college are considered by an example

of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The priorities in training, students’ academic

workload in the study of humanities, especially the US approach in teaching these disci-

plines at universities are analyzed. The importance of interdisciplinary research in mod-

ern science is emphasized. The significance of combination humanities, natural-science

and technological disciplines is revealed. The practical recommendations concerning

borrowing some of the MIT approaches to the humanities are given.
