The paper considers a bifurcation model of the historical process. It identifies basic provisions of this model. A number of key cognitive problems arising within the framework of the model are studied. They include the problem of finding a basic category acceptable for a significant part of historians and philosophers, the problem of determining time intervals between the different bifurcation points and the question of the influence degree of a historical figure in the past bifurcation states. The paper proposes solutions to these problems. It notes the need for further analysis of the theoretical and methodological problems within the framework of the bifurcation model.
