Development of the Ancient Ideas of
Blood and Air in the Works of A.L. Chizhevsky

The paper considers the phases of investigating the system “air – blood” in the life of the
organism. The analysis is focused on the contribution of Galen (II century), W. Harvey
(XVII century) and A.L. Chizhevskiy (XX century), who combined substrate and formal
mathematical approaches. Based on ideas of the unity of the world and synthesis of
knowledge Chizhevskiy laid the foundations for heliobiology, electrohemodynamics,
electron medicine and methodology of the medicine of the XXI century. His works contain
important potential for the philosophy of science.
