The paper presents the initial stage in studying descriptive geometry by students at a technical university. It provides analysis of the tutor goals, which includes the student thinking dynamics development as a skill and ability in solving the problems. The paper considers two forms of thinking, i.e. visual-effective and verbal-logical. They should be formed in students as a result of learning. A conclusion is made that students in solving complex problems with the systemically generalized objects are activating the visual-effective thinking much more often. The paper proposes methods in developing the verbal-logical thinking that are more efficient in solving the complex problems.
