Based on documents from federal and regional archives, as well as materials from periodical press, bus transportation in Kuibyshev during the Great Patriotic War has been analyzed. The history of the enterprise’s emergence was reconstructed, the pre-war state of the bus system was characterized, the features of the formation of passenger transportation in the 1930s were examined, and the reasons for its unsatisfactory performance during the war were identified. The main passenger transportation was noted to be carried out by tram services, and that trolleybus traffic was introduced in Kuibyshev in 1942. It is shown that the primary causes of the decline in bus transportation were a shortage of personnel, a lack of fuel, and insufficient repair infrastructure. Despite the deterioration in performance, buses continued to provide transportation in areas where electric transport lines were absent. It is concluded that a distinctive feature of wartime passenger bus transport was that the most stable routes connected Kuibyshev with its outskirts and remote areas.
