The article analyzes the social capital formation and accumulation by students in the engineering specialties under modern conditions. It shows that the dynamically developing world of high technologies creates new demand for knowledge, skills, and abilities of future engineers, while the social capital possibilities are making it possible to increase efficiency of training the highly qualified specialists and enhance their profile with the relevant competencies. The conducted problem-oriented sociological study reveals that students majoring in engineering often underestimate importance of the social capital and do not perceive it as the most important asset in their professional growth. In turn, this affects comprehensive training of the engineering personnel and is reflected in the higher education efficiency.
