A study of the potential of the digital environment as a space for recovery in labor activity is conducted. The concept of “digital shelter” is introduced — a virtual space organized through digital devices and practices in which a person restores emotional integrity and balance. The concept of “digital shelter” as a recovery practice in the workplace is methodologically substantiated, a typology of digital shelters is proposed, their functions and potential dysfunctions are defined. The ideas of E. Goffman on “backstage”, a space for rest from performing a social role; E. Klinenberg on public zones that can function as public shelters; and A. Hochschild on emotional labor and the associated need for recovery are used as a theoretical basis. The research focus expands the understanding of human behavior in the digital space. Unlike the concept of digital detox, which implies giving up technology for recovery, the concept of digital shelter offers its use as a resource for preserving inner integrity. It is determined that the constructive use of a digital shelter differs from escapism: by its limited duration, the intentions of the person, and the absence of guilt. The typology of digital shelters can be used as a basis for further empirical research on digital recovery practices in the professional environment.
