The article considers the Soviet State religion politics on the example of awarding Rus-

sian Orthodox Church leaders and Muslims unions for the contribution to the Nazi Ger-

many defeat during The Great Patriotic War. On the basis of archival documents, we

reveal the misconception of specialized literature that the Chairman of the

Central Mus-

lim Spiritual Board

G.Z. Rasulev (Ufa) first addressed the Soviet Muslims only 15 May

1942. Two versions of Mufti’s G.Z. Rasulev patriotic address of 2 September1942 found

by the author as well as recently declassified documents, break established stereotypes

and make it possible to see in the new light the Muslim Board’s and ordinary Muslim’s

patriotic activities. We propose recommendations that would contribute to the consolida-

tion of our society and to the Russian influence growth in the world.
