Characteristic features of organizing all-Russian Olympiads

in mathematics for students of technical universities

The all-Russian students Olympiad in mathematics aims to stimulate students to form

deep theoretical knowledge, as well as practical skills of solving non-standard prob-

lems. The competition may include separate contests for students of the 1st, 2nd and

senior years. The annual all-Russian students Olympiad in mathematics (see the offi-

cial documents on the web site

) is preceded in three stages: the 1st

one is held in universities, the 2nd one takes place in regions, and the 3rd one is Rus-

sia-wide. At the present time, the 3rd stage takes place in four universities (in Novo-

cherkassk, Irkutsk, Ufa and Yaroslavl). We compare and analyze organization of the

competitions in these cities. We notice some organizational drawbacks and offer

measures of optimization in some respects: selecting the problems, conditions of stu-

dents’ work, checking the solutions and the procedure of appeal.
