The evolution of international humanitarian law and the specifics of its compliance by the United States and the United Kingdom in 1946–2021 are examined. Materials on the historical and legal assessment of the actions of the American and British armies during military conflicts in the specified period are identified and summarized. It is noted that the United States and the United Kingdom considered their decision to invade the territories of other states with armed forces to be quite lawful and not in contradiction with international law. These wars were accompanied by cruelty towards the enemy and the use of criminal methods of warfare.
