Technotronic Man: Ontological Break between Humanism and Transhumanism

The results of the study of the philosophical concept of transhumanism as a dead-end trajectory of human development are presented. The basic ideological theses of transhumanism and alternative concepts of anthropological development represented in the Russian philosophical tradition (in particular, by the philosophers-cosmists), as well as in a number of works by representatives of contemporary Western philosophy that are consonant with these ideas, are analyzed. A fundamental philosophical question regarding the possibilities and prospects of human development is posed; this question cannot and should not be interpreted as treating human beings as an appendage of an intelligent machine. It is emphasized that the humanistic approach to human evolution makes it possible to regard the human being as an incomplete entity, one that is continuously improving and ascending. It is shown that within such a philosophical paradigm, it is the human being, rather than the machine, that acts as the subject of existential freedom, spiritual meanings, and moral responsibility in the era of an increasingly consolidated technotronic civilization and an expanding global technosphere.
