The article considers important issues of the tsarist authorities confronting the large-scale agrarian uprisings in 1905–1906. It examines the range of measures taken by the Saratov Government authorities to pacify and calm the peasant masses during the First Russian Revolution. The paper analyzes various areas in activity of the Government authorities to counter violent forms of the peasant uprisings. They include persuasion and admonition of the dissatisfied rural inhabitants, expulsion of the most dangerous criminal elements from the area, and, as an extreme measure, punitive actions against the peasant pogrom makers.
