Medicinal plants provision in the Middle Volga region as one of the patriotic movements to provide assistance to the hospitals during the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945

The paper examines movements to provide assistance to hospitals that unfolded in the first months of the Great Patriotic War in the rear areas of the Middle Volga region, in particular, collection of the medicinal plants. The paper notes that there were mainly the teenagers who participated in the movement, since the adults were occupied with agricultural work at the collective and state farms, as well as at the industrial enterprises. The paper concludes that the movement ensured significant assistance to pharmacies and pharmaceutical enterprises in providing them with the raw materials for production of a number of medicines, tinctures, decoctions, and ointments that were delivered to hospitals. That allowed many wounded soldiers and officers of the Red Army to return to their duties.
