A.V. Letnikov on the real education systems

The paper illustrates the life path of Professor of the Imperial Moscow Technical School Aleksey Vasilyevich Letnikov, analyzes his views on the real education systems in the European countries and considers proposals for creation of the real schools in Russia in the context of preparation of the school reform in Russia. It makes a conclusion that A.V. Letnikov’s position on development of the domestic secondary education should be recognized as rational, based on deep knowledge of the European experience and Russian realities. His proposals with certain changes were implemented in the Charter of the Real Schools of the Ministry of Public Education in 1872.
