Judicial Repressions during the First Russian Revolution of 1905

The events of judicial repressions in tsarist Russia at the beginning of the twentieth century are examined. The study is based on archival files from the fond of the Police Department preserved in the State Archive of the Russian Federation (GARF), as well as on published documents and scholarly research. It is shown that the repressions carried out by the tsarist regime were implemented inconsistently and were not as severe as is commonly believed. It is noted that their application was largely determined by the will of the executive authorities, while the results achieved were far from the intended objectives.
