Unrealized Project of the Technical Aviation School in Moscow (1917–1918)

The history of the unrealized project of the Technical Aviation School, which was intended to be established at the Imperial Moscow Technical School in 1917–1918 for training aviation technical specialists, is examined. A reconstruction of the proposed structure of this educational institution, its academic workload, and the objectives that its establishment was intended to address is presented. Through a comparative analysis of the projects of the Technical Aviation School and the Moscow Aviation Technical College (Aviatekhnikum), founded in 1919, it is demonstrated that the school project served as the basis for the initial concept of the Aviation Technical College, the implementation of which was also subsequently abandoned. It is noted that the Technical Aviation School project constitutes an important historical document reflecting approaches to the training of aviation technical specialists during the crisis period of 1917–1918. The abandonment of the project is interpreted as evidence of a shift in educational policy during the Civil War, when the model of such a school ceased to be considered relevant and priority was instead given to the establishment of a higher, rather than a secondary-level, educational institution for the training of aviation technical specialists. The study was conducted on the basis of unpublished archival sources preserved in the collections of the Scientific and Memorial Museum of Professor N.E. Zhukovsky.
