The article is devoted to a detailed analysis of the ideas of nationalism introduced by a Canadian philosopher Marshall McLuhan. This topic seems particularly relevant today for social philosophy, political science, and cultural studies. The relationship between the emergence of nation states and the appearance of printing is examined. By investigating modern world processes, the author demonstrates which of McLuhan’s predictions were correct and which were not. The problems of immigrant integration, the increased influence of large media corporations, and the struggle for minority equality are raised.
