The entry of new technologies into our daily life, the change in the axiological platforms of the liberal society, the procedures for identifying a postmodern person, the creation of virtual reality give rise to a number of problems that require both immediate solutions and a deep level of philosophical reflection. The paper analyzes the specific trends in the development of the information society at the present stage in the retrospective of social dystopias of the XX–XXI centuries. The study reveals the prognostic functions of dystopia presented as a model of alternative development of society, which has embodied the ideals of classical scientistic utopias into reality. Furthermore, we investigated the essential features of the culture of the technogenic world in the light of utopian constructs (cyberutopia), described the primary measures to avoid the most negative scenarios presented in modern dystopias.
