The paper introduces a philosophical interpretation of A. Leopold’s works devoted to his personal observations of natural environment under industrial civilization. The study aims at revealing the particularities and implicit assumptions of A. Leopold’s ecological position by using existential and phenomenological concepts, i.e. “life world”, “attitude towards others”, “fellow beings” and “limit situation”. The paper demonstrates that the American researcher’s position, his attitude towards various forms of biological beings, is determined by the existential search for authentic existence, as well as by a strategy of dealing with other life worlds within the insight into pluralistic reality.
