The purpose of this article is to study the phenomenon of meaningful dissonance, which consists in changing the value orientation of moral concepts. Using the method of historical-comparative analysis allows to identify the main factors determining the transformation of moral paradigms. The clash of the old mindset with the new social demands make a qualitative change in the understanding of the essence of moral provisions. Substantive dissonance is determined by the absolutization of new components of the moral life. The study establishes the patterns of formation of value potential of the social system and the influence on the behavioral standards of the individual.
