Mediaart and historic engineering sites of cultural heritage

The article deals with expanding the application of contemporary engineering, computing and communication technologies, as well as media art, in the field of preserving the cultural heritage of humanity. We demonstrate the increasing role design research plays in studying historic engineering sites. Using a specific site, the lighthouse of the Morro Castle (Faro del Castillo del Morro), which is a historic monument and a symbol of Old Havana, we describe how its 3D prototypes were created. We took a great number of factors, criteria and characteristics into account when designing the lighthouse prototype, including those that use contemporary communication technology and media art as the artistic field.
