Structure and trends of PhDs training by counties and scientific industries in the Russian Federation

The article considers issues of training highly qualified scientific staff in the frames of postgraduate and doctoral programs in different fields of science and in different districts of Russia. The authors make a conclusion on the current state of PhD training; give comprehensive statistical data on the number of organizations engaged in training postgraduates in 2000-2011; show the distribution of the number of postgraduate students over fields of science; analyze the process of training postgraduate students in different federal districts; estimate the number of those who defended the thesis in relation to the full number of those who completed the postgraduate program; evaluate the dynamics of change in the number of institutions engaged in training doctoral students and in the distribution of the number of doctoral students over fields of science.
