Information technology in the economy:
trends and issues of unintended consequences

The tendencies and problems of using information technology in the sectors of the Rus-
sian economy are considered. Statistical data show an increase in the share of industrial
organizations, using mainly local systems based on the information technologies. In the
fields of finance, banking, payment systems, commerce and leisure industry digital tech-
nology are spreading most rapidly, but are being accompanied by unforeseen conse-
quences, the effects of which have been called “digital war”.
